RULES a) The Competition will be run in accordance with IGFA rules. b) The Competition is a three-day event; boats may leave from TYC, Marungu or Kigombe on the first day. The second day, all boats must leave from TYC. c) Maximum of four anglers per boat. No substitute angler will be permitted during the competition. Only nominated anglers may strike, fight and land a fish. Fish must be marked to identify rod and angler. d) Maximum of six lines permitted in the water at any one time. e) Boats reporting a hooked fish 20 minutes before lines up will be allowed an extra 30 minutes only. f) A representative from each boat must report to the Weigh master, at TYC, with the boat’s catch within 30 minutes of the finishing time, including all nil returns. The penalty for lateness is disqualification of that day. g) Keep at least 500 m clear of any boat, which is obviously fighting fish. h) All boats must be equipped with a VHF radio operating on Marine Channel 71 (TYC), or a cell phone. Clearance of arrival or departure from TYC must be sought from Tanga Harbor Signal Station on Marine Ch 12 / 16 or phone ‘signal station’ on 027-2642554 or mobile 0748 346006. i) A situation report is required on the hour to TYC control on Ch 71 or phone No. 027 2644246 or mobile 0748 346006. j) Any dishonesty will be dealt with severely and publicly. 2. START & FINISH The Start/Finish line is a line from the Eastern tip of Toten Island and the boat shed on the TYC Eastern boundary. Anchors up at 06.30 hrs on both days Finnish – 1st day – 1700hrs 2nd day – 1600hrs Slow boats (less than 8 knots) will be allowed 30 minutes either end. SCORING – Both days - All Species + Bonus points a) Species allowable: All Game fish, Billfish and Shark. No bottom fish, or mutilated fish will be weighed. b) Species amount: Only 10 fish per specie per boat will be weighed during the competition. c) Minimum weights permissible: Game fish - 3kg Sailfish / Spearfish - 40kg Marlin / Broadbill - 100kg Shark - 75kg Released Fish – Billfish/Shark Only - PenaltyReleased fish will score the minimum weights for points. We support release; therefore a team bringing any of the specified fish to the scale that weigh less than the stipulated minimum will be penalized as follows: 80 pts Sailfish / Spearfish 200 pts for Marlin / Broadbill 150 pts for Shark (Any fish dying during capture will be weighed as normal) POINTS AWARDED – ONE POINT PER KILOGRAM (To the nearest whole kilogram) SPECIES BONUS POINTS– Total points X number of species 1 species weighed = total points X 1 4 species weighed = total points X 4 et Example of days’ catch 2 Tuna (total pts/wt) = 25 NOTE: 3b and 3c 1 Sailfish-released (min wt) = 40 3 Wahoo (total pts/wt) = 32 Total 97 X 3 (species) Total days’ points = 291 4. RELEASE OF BILLFISH / SHARK Releases must be verified/witnessed in one of two ways. (i) Photographs can be made of the successful release. (ii) Another boat must verify a release. Witness boats, AFTER clearance by TYC control, will be awarded 15 bonus points for witnessing a release. (A ‘successful release’ constitutes the leader or bill held by the wireman, and the subsequent release of a live fish.) 5. PROTEST - Any protest must be presented to the Judges in writing (with TSh 10,000/-), within 30 minutes of reporting to the Weigh master. Any decision by the Judges will be final. 6. FISHING LICENSES AND IMMIGRATION FORMALITIES All anglers require a Tanzanian Sport Fishing Licenses. We will arrange issue of these at TYC. (bring 2 p/p photos) All boats arriving from outside Tanga are required to report to Immigration first to complete formalities.
